Annual status 2014 plus update after earthquake May 2015

District: Kavre
Period covered by this report: January–December 2014 sent to donor September 2015

VILLAGE  NP 54 – DUWAGAUN
Was the Triangle procedure followed to have half the members in the village committee be women? Were there any deviations from the standard procedure? From this year the village committee will follow the Triangle procedure. The committee is to reform. It will reform in next meeting.

What were the issues raised at the village meeting? Goat farming training, Drinking water plan improvement, washing soap making training, Path Improvement, Community forest preservation, Telephone Line etc.

What did the villagers decide to spend the funds on? The villagers decided to spend the granted Nrs. 90,000 by investing, NRs.25,000/- on Drinking water plan improvement NRs.40,000/- in income generation (microloan for goat farming) & Nrs.25,000/-for soap making training.
Has the committee received the funds yet? The fund has been received.
 Activity plan All planned activities were completed, which are described below:
Who is responsible for the implementation? The committee, facilitator and villagers.
How were the beneficiaries selected?  After finishing the settlement level planning, The village committee organized the meeting and made the decisions to distribute the money. Generally the villager followed some indicators for the distribution of money which is indicated by LGCDP(Local Government Community Development Program):

  • The family with no or very little land.
  • Poor house condition.
  • Lack of food for whole year.
  • Labors for others for livelihood.
  • Unemployed family.
  • No guarantee for settlement, etc.
Did the villagers have any comments/questions for the Triangle? They would like to thank the Triangle organization for its support, and they wish continuous help of the organization. And if they got the big amount of money fond they would like to use the fund for, good rest places along the mountain road, good roads etc.

Reporting of Micro loan

Use of Microloan until 2014 Micro loan total collected from pay back of loans: Nrs 80000 (Nrs   40000 from previous year and 40,000.00 from 2014)

  • 10 families got the microloan Nrs 80000 (10 persons*8000) and started the goat raising.
Major Achievements from Previous Year
  • The 8 families who got loan for goat raising in 2013, they got a lot of benefits and extra money (Minimum Nrs 5000.00 to maximum Nrs 15,000.00) and spent it for the dress and books for their children, food and some clothes for the families. Now they have felt the improvement for their improved livelihood. Therefore, they would like to remember who support the village.
Impact of Settlement level planning
  • Villagers have applied for 2 the projects from VDC and DDC, but almost the money went for earthquake support, so this time this is not possible to get support for the project applications from the village. .

Village situation after earthquake and aftershock

All the houses are totally collapsed. The school building also cracked and it is difficult to teach inside the room. IT building also partially cracked.  Many livestock sheds are cracked and damaged. People are requesting more shelter but the VDC distributed very few due to the limitation of funds.
