Period covered by this report: January –December 2014. Updated July 2015 with microloan and earthquake

 

VILLAGE  NP 51 –GAIRIGAUN
Was the Triangle procedure followed? Were there any deviations from the standard procedure? Yes this year the village committee followed the Triangle procedure. The facilitator facilitated and encouraged the villagers to follow.

What were the issues raised at the village meeting? Income generation activities (vegetables farming, pig raising) , scholarships, health and sanitation, environmental issues, drinking water, irrigation plan, cattle farming training, construction of road, tourism development.

What did the villagers decide to spend the funds on? The villagers decided to spend the granted Nrs.90,000 by investing 15,000.00 in repairing water plan, Nrs.35,000.00 for goat farming microloan, Nrs.25,000.00 for vegetable farming and microloan support to village model farm and 10,000/- for scholarship from Triangle support money.
Has the committee received the funds yet? December 2014
 Activity plan: All planned activities were completed, which are described below:

  • Nrs 10,000/- was spent for scholarship to the poor students.
  • invested for micro loan to women and poor’s income generation.
  • Nrs 1000.00 is in bank balance.
Who is responsible for the implementation? The committee, the facilitators and villagers.
How were the beneficiaries selected?  After finishing the settlement level planning, The village committee organized the meeting and made the decisions how to distribute the money. Generally the villager followed some indicators for the distribution of money which is indicated by LGCDP(Local Government Community Development Program):

  • The family with no or very little land.
  • Poor house condition.
  • Lack of food for whole year.
  • Labors for others for livelihood.
  • Unemployed family.
  • No guarantee for settlement, etc.
Did the villagers have any comments/questions for the Triangle? They would like to thank the Triangle organization for its support, and they wish continuous help of the organization. And if they got the big amount of money fond they would like to use the fund for constructions of school buildings. Good rest places

On-going activities – Status Update

1. Settlement level planning was completed.

2. All income generation activities, goat farming, commercial vegetable farming, drinking water conservation etc. are under implementation

  • All the activities were delayed because of late transfer of the money from Ask account to village account, heavy and delayed rain, local festival, the second CA election. Implementation of all activities is on-going. It is expected to be finalized soon.

Reporting of Micro loan

Use of Microloan until 2014 Micro loan total collected from pay back of loans: Nrs 110000 (Nrs 50000 from previous year and 60,000.00 from 2014)

  • 15 families got the microloan Nrs 85000 (5 persons*Nrs 7000 and 10 persons*5000 ) and started the goat raising.
  • 5 families got the microloan Nrs 25000 (5 Persons*Nrs 5000) and started the vegetables farming.
Major achievements from previous year The 10 families who got loan for goat raising in 2013, they got a lot of benefits and extra money (Minimum Nrs 5000.00 to maximum Nrs 15,000.00) and spent it for the dress and books for their children, food and some clothes for the families. Now they have felt the improvement for their improved livelihood. Therefore, they would like to remember who support the village.
Impact of Settlement level planning Villagers has demanding the project from VDC and now they got positive response from VDC.

Village situation after earthquake and aftershock

All the houses are totally collapsed. The school building also cracked and it is difficult to teach inside the room.  Many livestock shed are cracked and damaged. People are requesting more shelter but the VDC distributed very few.
